Apple’s Flip Phone Patent…More Than Meets The Eye

PatentlyApple does a great job reporting on all of Apple’s patents – regardless of how crazy they might be, and this flip-phone patent is no exception to the standard they’ve set.

As reported by Forbes, there’s a bit more than meets the eye in regards to PatentlyApple’s most recent report…

While Apple’s patent below seem to indicate a patent for a flip-phone, and it’s a new flip phone – not an acquired patent – Forbes noticed something else:

What Apple filed is not a design patent, it’s a patent covering flexible, lightweight structural materials (i.e. bonding titanium and magnesium layers with polyethylene terephthalate, polyvinyl chloride and polyisocyanurate foams) which Apple is hiding behind the illustration of a basic flip phone.

While Apple has filed trademarks that seemingly indicates they’re developing a flip-phone, this isn’t actually a design patent.

It would seem, based on this patent, Apple is hearing up to take on the likes of the Galaxy Fold and other similar foldable devices.
