Apple News Gets a New Logo…Does It Work?

While Apple typically reserves icon redesigns for large scale releases, like iOS 7, it would seem they’ve made an exception to their rule.

With the release of iOS 12.2 the News app received a newly simplified design – that not a ton of people seem to be happy with. One of the admins of the Apple Slice Podcast admins decided to design his own version of the simplified icon – and it looks a lot better.

The News application was launched in 2015 alongside iOS 9 and has been met with mixed interest & reviews. This redesign seems to come before Apple intends on launching a news-based subscription platform later this month.

Unfortunately, Apple’s iOS 12.2 icon redesign seems to push simplicity ahead of the aforementioned launch – but the icon iteself loses a lot of character.
